2. Right to Remain Silent (Susma Hakkı)

• The Rule: You do not have to answer questions about the crime. You only have to give your ID info (Name, Age).
• Effect: Remaining silent is NOT an admission of guilt. It is a smart strategic move to buy time until your lawyer sees the evidence file.

3. Medical Examination (Sağlık Raporu)

• The Rule: Police must take you to a doctor before detention and after release.
• Purpose: To prove you were not tortured or beaten.
• Advice: If you have any pain, bruise, or need medicine, tell the doctor. Ensure it is written in the report.

The Procedure

1. Notification: Police inform you of the crime.
2. Relative Notification: They must call 1 relative (or Consulate if you are foreign).
3. Attorney Meeting: You speak to your Attorney in private.
4. Statement: You give your official statement (or stay silent).
5. Release or Court: Prosecutor decides to let you go or send you to the Judge.
