Law No. 6284 is Turkey’s primary legal shield against domestic violence. It is designed to act FAST. Unlike a normal lawsuit where you wait months for a hearing, Law 6284 measures are taken in minutes.

Who Is Protected?

The law is not just for “Married Women”. It protects:

Women: Regardless of marital status (Married, Single, Divorced).
Children: Who are victims of abuse or witness violence.
Family Members: Any person living in the same household (e.g., Mother, Father).
Stalking Victims: Even if you have no relationship, if someone is stalking you (IsrarlÄ± Takip), you are protected.

The Core Principle: “No Proof Needed”

This is the most controversial yet vital part of the law.

To get a Preventive Order, the victim’s statement is sufficient.
You do NOT need a doctor’s report, witness, or video.
“He threatened to kill me” -> Judge issues order.
Reasoning: If we wait for proof (like a battered face), it might be too late (Femicide).

Duration of Orders

Initial Order: Usually issued for 1 to 6 Months.
Extension: If the danger continues, it can be extended before it expires.

Can Men Use It?

Yes. The law says “Persons subjected to violence”. A husband beaten or threatened by his wife (or son) can also apply for protection.
