Baseless news about you, photos violating your privacy, or comments damaging your commercial reputation on the internet do not have to stay there forever. Law No. 5651 grants the right to “Access Blocking” and “Content Removal” to those whose personal rights are violated.

1. Which Content Can Be Removed?

• Violation of Personal Rights: Insult, defamation, fake news.
• Privacy of Private Life: Unauthorized shared photos, videos (Revenge Porn).
• Right to Be Forgotten: Very old news that no longer carries public interest but negatively affects the person’s current life.

2. Application Process

1. Application to Content Provider (Optional): A “Remove” warning can be sent to the site management first. But if urgent, this can be skipped.
2. Criminal Judgeship of Peace: This is the most effective way. An application is made to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace specifying the URL addresses where the violation occurred.
3. Decision Time: The judgeship concludes the request within 24 HOURS at the latest.

3. Implementation of the Decision

The court decision is sent to the Access Providers Union (ESB), and the content is blocked from access (made inaccessible from Turkey) within 4 hours.

Legal Warning: Requests to “remove all news from the site” are usually rejected. Only the blocking of specific URL addresses (links) containing the violation should be requested.
